🇩🇪 Germany Diaries #2 | Beyond the Brochure – A Journey Through Germany’s Muslim Communities

When many people think of Germany, they picture world-class engineering, historic castles, efficient public transport and outstanding universities.

During my journeys across the country, I’ve discovered another side of Germany that often goes unnoticed—a network of welcoming Muslim communities, beautiful mosques, and thoughtfully provided prayer facilities that make it possible to observe our faith while travelling.

Together with my son, Aiman, I had the opportunity to visit several mosques across Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Bavaria, and even pray in dedicated prayer rooms at major international airports. Each place had its own story. Some were magnificent purpose-built mosques. Others reflected the generosity of local communities, such as a learning institute in Güstrow that opens its doors every Friday so Muslims can gather for Friday prayers.

These experiences reminded me that travelling is about more than visiting landmarks. It is about meeting people, understanding communities, and appreciating the diversity that exists beyond the usual tourist attractions.

For Muslim travellers, students and professionals considering Germany, I hope this collection offers reassurance that maintaining one’s faith can comfortably be part of the journey.

This is another chapter of the Germany I enjoy sharing—one that truly goes beyond the brochure.
