🇩🇪 German Diaries: Dzul’s Chef Journey – Part 2/5

Then the offer came in! It was a nice surprise.
Getting an opportunity to work in Germany sounds like the hard part.
But for Dzul, it wasn’t.
The harder question came next:
Could his German keep up with the opportunity?

He has now received an employment opportunity in Germany.
🎉 Hooray!! Excellent!!
But there was a serious catch.
His German now needed a serious upgrade!!
And he knew it.

In Singapore, Dzul had already started working on his German. He attended German online classes while working his day job, for a few months. He even sat for the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 examination.

The result?
30 out of 100. The pass mark was 60.
He didn’t pass.
That piece of paper could have been discouraging.

But looking back, I think it became something more valuable: A Reality Check.
Because getting an opportunity in Germany and actually being ready for Germany are two very different things.
The offer was one thing.
Being able to communicate, work, adapt and build a life there was another.

And Dzul understood that he couldn’t simply hope his German would improve by itself.
He needed to do something much more drastic. Otherwise – NO GERMANY!

So the next decision was made.
